Symbolism of the Turtle
Their slow and plodding nature led to the belief that turtles had the ability to carefully contemplate the weighty issues of the world around them. It was thought that the turtle had the magical ability to unite heaven and earth and this link between heaven and earth made them a natural for use in divination. And, since turtles seem to possess an enviable resistance to aging, they came to symbolize longevity and immortality.
