Historical Inspiration
This torc was inspired by a style of torc made in central Europe by the Celts during a late Iron Age period known as the La Téne culture, from 450 BC until the Roman conquests. Artwork from this period was "a highly stylized curvilinear art based mainly on classical vegetable and foliage motifs such as leafy palmette forms, vines, tendrils and lotus flowers together with spirals, S-scrolls, lyre and trumpet shapes" ("NMI": Wallace, Patrick F., O'Floinn, Raghnall eds. Treasures of the National Museum of Ireland: Irish Antiquities).

Torcs from this period often ended in 'trumpet' shaped terminals, decorated with spirals and other vegetable and curvilinear elements. We have attempted to capture the essence of this style with a combination of these elements in a traditional Iron Age Celtic design.
